The Isle of Wight Association of Local Councils is an umbrella organisation which represents and supports member Parish and Town Councils across the Isle of Wight. The Association is governed by an Executive Committee formed from representatives appointed by their respective councils; membership of the Association is open to all local councils for an annual subscription.
The mission of the Association is to provide help, advice, training and assistance to its members; this includes access to advice on legal matters. The service offered is supported by their links with the National Association of Local Councils (NALC) to which it is affiliated.
The Association is a source of knowledge for Parish and Town Councils for all its day-to-day business. It also aims to promote good first tier government practices and grassroots democracy by distributing the most up to date information and training. Currently there are 74 Legal Topic Notes, published by NALC, and available from us to member councils free of charge. They cover many of the problems that Parishes face and could potentially save huge amounts of money in legal fees.
This website is being developed for the benefit of our member Town and Parish Councils to bring together the most vital and relevant information for the Association membership, we hope you find it useful. Please feel free to email us with ideas, suggestions or changes you would like to enhance it further.
