Isle of Wight Association of Local Councils

Welcome to the IWALC Website

The Isle of Wight Association of Local Councils (IWALC) represents the interests of town and parish councils across the Island. Membership comprises 30 of our 33 local councils, and IWALC is affiliated to the National Association of Local Councils, providing access to resources, training and information to help member councils serve their electorate. The Chair of IWALC for 2012/13 is Cllr Gill Kennett MBE of Freshwater Parish Council.

Over half of IWALC member councils have achieved Quality Parish Council accreditation, compared with a national figure of 8%, demonstrating a strong commitment to delivering the highest standards of service to Island residents. The Association recently hosted a national event on best practice.

IWALC receives no funding from central government or the Isle of Wight Council, and members like all Town and Parish Councillors serve as unpaid volunteers.
